This is the first time that I am sharing this story with anyone. I am even hesitant sharing it now, as I was embarrassed by my lack of knowledge then and continue to be embarrassed till date. This happened when I was 17 years old and it was the first time that I was getting sexually involved with someone. The first time that I gave my boyfriend a blow job I was very scared that I would get pregnant. I had no formal sexual health education and neither had I learned about sex from informal sources (friends, books etc). My boyfriend couldn't stop laughing when I shared my fears. He told me that you can only get pregnant through sexual intercourse and not by oral sex. I have since started to educate myself, but still feel that I have limited knowledge, as within the South Asian circles or in my family we rarely discuss these issues. Thankfully the internet was created and I now tend to research any fears or questions that I might have. However, I do believe that if we do not educate young girls then they live with these fears and it is easier for others to take advantage of them.
