Guiding Principles
SAH Project is committed to:
- Being informed
- Creating social change in health through prevention and empowerment
- Advocating for a healthy life and access to medical care as a right and as an issue of social justice
- Serving and advocating for individuals and groups that self-identify as South Asian, regardless of education, economic status, sexual orientation, gender, disability, age, ethnicity, religious affiliation, caste, country of origin, or immigration status
- Progressive change in the public health arena, which will support, to the best of its ability, efforts to improve the health of all immigrant and minority communities
- A vision of public health change that not only targets individual beliefs, behaviors, and practices, but also targets structural and cultural systems which may be detrimental to the health of our communities
- Giving voice to South Asian community health concerns, seeking input from community members and leaders and ensuring diverse representation
- An environment that upholds confidentiality and professional work ethic and integrity
- Representing the diversity within South Asian groups
