Why Sexual Health? Sexual health is an important part of everyone's life. Knowing more about "Sexual Health" allows us to think and speak openly about sex and about our bodies--the first step to living sexually healthy lives.
Join SAH Project in raising awareness about sexual health by:
- Challenging myths, getting informed, and taking control.
- Making choices on how to take care of your body
- Using resources that are available
- Getting informed on the facts of reproductive tract infections (RTIs), including sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
- Sharing stories about your health
What is Sexual Health? The term "Sexual Health" encompasses many aspects related to sex and one's body, including (but not limited to):
- Men's health
- Women's health
- Safe and pleasurable sex
- Sexual Violence and Abuse, including incest and sex trafficking
- Contraception
- Reproductive Tract Infections, such as sexually transmitted infections (STI) and other infections of the reproductive system that are not caused through sexual contact
- Abstinence
- Valuing your body
- Prevention
- Cancer
- Menopause
- Pregnancy
- Living with HIV/AIDS, or any other STI
- Infertility
Defining Sexual Health? SAH Project has adopted a working definition for sexual health from the World Health Organization website, which includes (but is not limited to):
- Physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being;
- Absence of disease;
- Positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships;
- Pleasurable and safe sexual experiences;
- Choices;
- Freedom from sexual coercion, discrimination, and violence; and
- Human rights.
